The temple Myoshin-ji is the headquarters of the Rinzai sect Myoshinji school with 3500 subordinate temples throughout the country. In 1342 the retired priest-emperor Hanazono had his private villa rededicated as a Zen temple. There is a 47 subtempels in the Kyoto compound as: Taizo-in, Keishun-in, Reiun-in, Shunko-in and Tenkyu-in.
