The Biwako Sosui canal was constructed in 1890. The water of Biwako Canal flows down from Lake Biwa in Shiga through several long tunnels. Along the canal, you can see a lot of cherry trees and they are especially beautiful with full blossoms in spring of every year (see pictures). There is a museum near Keage with material about the canal.
